Prompt for the Day: “( YAWN )”

The boring people at the Daily Post group of Word Press really stretched their minds to arrive at the prompt of “YAWN” for today’s writing inspiration.  Thay also included a single question-“What bores you?”

Boredom!

This topic makes me think of an episode from the television series “M.A.S.H.”, where Hawkeye conjugates the word “bored” out loud to his tentmate.

Politics, in general, bore me today.  Where did the days of politicians actually working for their constituents go?  Nowadays, it seems as if they feel that they are owed the right of a seat in congress or the senate.  They used to have to EARN the right to be chosen to represent the everyday people of this country.

Religions now days also bore me to tears!  Too many faiths seem to be after the almighty dollar instead of saving other’s souls from sin and eternal damnation.  Aren’t they supposed to concentrate on helping other humans live a fulfilling life in the service of the Lord?

Here’s a strange thought, how about if a politician manages to feel the calling from above?  Would they try to save their followers?

Please Help Fight this Evil Disease

The medicine my neurologist has me on for my multiple sclerosis is called Tysabri. Trying to find the actual cost on the internet is impossible. I remember when I first started on the drug the amount the facility tried charging me was well over $2500. There was no way my husband and I could afford that every 28 days! Biogen (the company that manufactures the drug) has been helping us with some of the cost of the drug, but will not continue helping indefinitely. So I have started a Go Fund Me campaign. Prompt for the Day: “Un/Faithful”

The sacrilegious people at the Daily Post division of Word Press created the prompt for today of “Un/Faithful”  Then they gave us a single additional instruction: “Tell us about the role that faith plays in your life — or doesn’t.”

My Faith

My parents forced me to attend and then be confirmed in the faith created and ran by the United Church of Christ.  In my opinion (by age eight) they were only interested in what money I could give them!  Was confirmed in the faith my eighth grade year in school.  Still hated going there to worship every Sunday.  Preferred to do my praying up in an old apple tree in our front yard.  That is where I read, had talks with God, you get the idea.  Was my private sanctuary.

Left home to attend college alone out-of-state.  Tried joining the local UCC, in that town.  They were not interested in letting college kids join their organization.   So I ended up going to another church with a friend I had already made there in college.  She took me to the local Methodist church.  They not only welcomed me, but let me join their adult choir, bell choirs, and made me feel welcome in their community!  We went on yearly outings where we helped the elderly and or other wise disabled people of the area winterize their homes.  Got pretty skilled at putting up window sealants (plastic coverings) on the lower windows.  Caroling trips happened year round as we visited various homes for the retired people in local towns.  Made may friends in that group of people!

Prompt for the day: “The Great Pretender”

The artful people of the Daily Post group of Word Press crafted today’s prompt of “The Great Pretender“.  They also posed a question, followed by a request.  “Are you full of confidence or have you ever suffered from Impostor Syndrome? Tell us all about it.”

In my life

It all depends on which period of my life you are discussing.

  1. While growing up in the forgotten part of southern Illinois, pretended to be smart and religious christian to make my father happy.  The church in which I was forced to belong , the United Church of Christ, was money hungry to put it politely.
  2. Moved out of state to attend college in Missouri.  While there, tried to join the domination located there to be told informed they weren’t interested in letting college students join.  Joined a Methodist church that welcomed and let college kids participate in their faith.  Ended up getting married to my husband in that church because he had joined it as well.
  3. Got a job that forced us to move to the Chicago-metro area of IL.  Was the first female in the branch of the company to be hired.  Did a lot of pretending to fit in with the all male environment.  Spent 18 months there.  While on a contract to cover for a man who’s wife had a baby out in California.  Had to fly there going through and stopping at Denver International Airport in Colorado.  While taxing down the runway to return home, saw what literally looked like fire raining down from above in the sky.  Knew I wanted to live in that place next!
  4. Got transferred within the company to the Denver area branch.  The company started to disintegrate from lack of business.  Saw the signs before, so I found another company to work for in the same field of employment.  Lasted only a month or so there.  Found a different field of work that still used my technical knowledge.  Started the new job, the Monday after the Friday I quit the last job!  Company was on shaky grounds before I started.  Was unaware of the fact.  A little over a year and a half after I was hired, the company filed for bankruptcy.  Was let go like all the other people working there.  Was unemployed for the first time in my life.  After much searching for new work, was hired by a contractor for the Department of Homeland Security.  My husband was not happy with where we lived.  He wanted to move to Wisconsin.
  5. I resigned my work and we packed up the house and moved to try and purchase a bar in WI.  There was no employment available in my field anywhere near where we were living.   So with absolutely no income coming in, had to seek employment some where.  Made the mistake of accepting the first full time job offered to me.  Led me down the road to try committing suicide, I was so miserable!  Ended up having to file bankruptcy.  Lost our house in CO and all my retirement savings that I had amassed during my years of employment.  Had to retreat with our tails between our legs back to the miserable area of southern IL.
  6. Back in IL, we lived in my dead grandparents old home.  Filed for medicare disability since I was no longer able to work.  My husband was able to find employment in a nearby town.  With my health deteriorating at an alarming rate had to get help from the state to take care of me.  Was not able to keep the house clean and running like I’d always done.  A little over 18 months, had given us the chance to get back up on our feet financially.  We returned to the city in which we had been married in MO.
  7. Since my husband was able to transfer the position he worked in IL to MO, we still had income coming in.  Was able to get an electronic wheelchair paid for through my medicare disability.  Was still not able to find myself work.  Now was in my wheelchair 24 hours a day.  The location he was now working in did not treat him well.  He transferred to another location.  Still unhappy, he decided we had to move to another state entirely!
  8. Minnesota was were he wanted to move to this time.  Did some research and discovered a town that had handicapped housing available.  Unfortunately, his employer did not have a location anywhere near there.  So we moved into an apartment complex that was supposed to be fully handicap accessible. (Apparently, an actual person confined to a  wheelchair had not ever tried living there successfully before!)  Was a living nightmare!  Electric wheelchair would not even fit in the doors.  Thankfully still had brought my manual chair that I have had since 1996 along when we moved each time.  The wheelchair began to show its age.  Brakes no longer worked.  Would not even fit into the bathroom when we eventually moved down to the first floor,  had to remove the leg rests from the chair.  Looked into getting a new wheelchair from my disability insurance.  They had a little problem getting it small enough to allow me to be able to use the restroom.  After three tries, they got the perfect model.  Now had a chair that the gentleman who delivered it taught me to take care of the brakes.
  9. We started looking for a home so we could get out of the dreaded apartment complex from hell!  Enlisted the aide of a helpful realtor.  Found a house located in a city that had 24 hour transportation available for the handicap population.  Closed on the house on the 15th of August.  Moved in on the 20th!  Love our new neighbors.

Prompt for the Day: “A True Saint”

The apparently sacrilegious  people at the Daily Post group from Word Press came up with today’s prompt of “A True Saint“.  They people also asked a question and gave a few words of advice-“In 300 years, if you were to be named the patron saint of X, what would you like X to be? Places, activities, objects — all are fair game.”

The faith I was raised in, and the one I converted to in college, neither recognize mere human people as saints.   Personally I for one, am anything but!

If anything I would be the patron saint of mistakes and clumsiness!  My life has been one humongous mistake after another.  The only reason I no longer trip over my own feet walking, is I am now confined to using a wheelchair due to multiple sclerosis.  Spend my day either sitting in my recliner or wheelchair, except when I get down on the floor to antagonize our cat.  Adopting that animal, is turning out to be another mistake since the animal prefers to bite me all the time!  I am the one that feeds him.

The cat must have not heard it is impolite to bite the hand that feeds you!  Just proves how messed up the creature truly is.  If the cat doesn’t stop shedding, it will end up freezing to death this winter!  Hates to be covered up with a blanket, just likes to be on a warm person’s lap.  Never been one for a lap cat, myself.  Prefer an active friend that likes to kill and chase bugs that enter our home.

Used to play fetch with the last cat we had.  It was an excellent soccer goalie!  Couldn’t get a ball past him when he was fully awake.  We used to play hide and seek at the house we lived in up in Colorado.

Prompt for the Day: “Connect the Dots”

The prompt for the day given to us by the creative people working with the Daily Post group of Word Press is: “Connect the Dots“.  Added instructions to jump start our meager brains were “Scour the news for an entirely uninteresting story. Consider how it connects to your life. Write about that.”

My mind tends to be slower than most these days.  No clue where it will wander off to today!  Did come across a story from the Political Insider : “Obama Threatens to De-Fund Military Unless Terrorists are RELEASED!“.  Did not vote for the idiot in charge either time!  He continuous to prove the idiocy he showed in the Illinois congress did not improve in the least.

He can’t even decide what religion he is!  Is he a Christian or a Muslim? When he was elected, he attended the United Church of Christ.  Now, he prefers to pray to Allah!  Make up your mind.  His wife keeps sticking her nose into what the children of this country eats for lunch each day.  Know the school lunches stank when I in school, but from what I hear now it is much worse!

For some kids this may be the only decent meal they get for the entire day.  Was lucky enough to get a decent breakfast and supper every single day.  Some children rely on the school to get them fed edible food.  And the president wants our country to pay his wife for starving our kids?  I want to know what drugs the man is on and who his supplier is!

And why would we agree to releasing the terrorist we have in custody?  Is that so they can plan another devastating attack on our soil?  Even he can’t actually believe we are that stupid!  9/11/2001 still seems like yesterday to me. He actually wants to perpetuate the terrorism on our country?

Prompt for the day: “Worlds Colliding”

Talk about people reading my mind!  The people at the daily post some how knew I was in a violent mood and came up with the imagery of Worlds Colliding.  The idea of worlds colliding is very violent, in my mind at least.

Imagine just the destruction that could happen if something like two continents collided.  If I remember my history correctly, it happened years ago long before I was ever the slightest twinkle in my parents eyes.

Think as far as politics in the world go, there are different political factions colliding all around the world on a constant basis.  If you really want to make a mess, throw in a dose of religion for good measure!  Now we are talking about a blood bath of a collision of epic proportions.

At the moment, over on one of the other continents there are refugees being displaced due to war and lack of food and housing.  They reported on the local news last night that the last time this many refugees had been displaced was during World War Two!

If you want to go closer to home, think about when families are in the middle of going through a divorce of kids’ parents.  The children often are forced to survive in two or more completely different environments (or worlds to them) they have absolutely no choice in the matter!  One parent’s environment might be a safe loving place for the kids, just not much money.  The other place could be flush with funding, but no time for the children’s growth and nurturing.  How do you decide where the kids should spend most of their time?  Who has both the right and knowledge to make an informed decision?

What about when our elders are forced to leave their homes, moving into a place where they can be supervised and cared for around the clock?  They loose their freedom to decide what they can do and when they can do it.  Kind of a collision of two worlds in my opinion.

Got my usual Sunday writer’s block again

Sundays seem to leave me feeling the most depresses for some reason.  Growing up and being forced to attend a church I did not like, sort of ruined the day far me, personally.  Can’t manage to shake what was literally beaten in to me.  Long periods sitting quietly on uncomfortable pews, making my butt ache with the desire to go outside and play.  Trees were calling me to climb them, but you are not allowed to get dirty in your Sunday clothes!

Tended to cause problems with the congregation by asking too many question about our faith.  Couldn’t understand why females did not generally get listened to or be allowed to join the dart ball team.  Was just one of the guys growing up, but physically was a female.

I think like a male, probably due to the fact I was my parent’s first kid and my father wanted a boy.  All of the people who worked on our farm were the local boys.  To fit in with them, had to act like them.  My mother really got mad when at the age of 3, I taught myself to urinate standing up.  She was not impressed, to say the least.  Had better accuracy than the guys!  Shared my new found skills with the little girl who’s mother brought her to visit on a regular basis.  Figured Heather needed to gain the same skills as me.

A few months after the learning to pee standing up, Heather and I decided to color on my bedroom’s walls with some markers we had found laying around the house.  Her mom got called and after making it so we could not sit comfortably for a while, they scrubbed the walls clean.  When they were done we got hit some more.  I did not ouch markers for a LONG time!
