Prompt for the Day: “Right to Brag”

The highly intelligent people at the Daily Post portion of Word Press produced the daily prompt for today of “Right to Brag“.  They gave us the following words of encouragement to get us started “Tell us about something you (or a person close to you) have done recently (or not so recently) that has made you really, unabashedly proud.”

Upon my graduation from Southwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science and minor in physics, I was the first person to graduate with at least a four year degree of any sorts from my mother’s family.  Unfortunately, still am.

Got my first job while still in college as an intern with a dairy company.  Helped them build and then manage their Novell Netware installations in the mid-west part of the United States of America.  From there I left for a major networking company called Paranet.  It was purchased by Sprint before my first actual date of employment.  As Sprint’s slimy company started altering our close knit environment of mentoring each other for their love of money, I relocated to another location of the company in Colorado hoping to get back what I thought we had been loosing.  Turned out the love for money over employees culture was much worse there.  Left that company for another consulting firm competitor.

The competitor was evil from the get-go!  Lasted just a few months with them.  Started looking for a different type of employment.  Was hired, before I quit the evil company.

Got my start in the growing DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) company known as Rhythms Netconnections.  Was the most fun I had experienced in a long time at work.  After getting integrated into their company, switched to their night shift.  Worked on their layer three networking team. Excelled at finding and resolving routing loops caused by the engineering team being careless in trying to grow our network too fast.  Was really good at taking good notes of my finds, by capturing screen shots of the traffic patterns proving the loops!

Unfortunately, the company was forced to file bankruptcy.  Was let go like way too many of my coworkers.  Was forced to file for unemployment for the first time in my life.

Prompt for the day – Doubters Alert

The mind boggling prompt for the day from the Daily Post part of WordPress is: “Doubters Alert“.

Somehow I doubt that everyone will believe this to be true!  Think there will always be a plethora of doubters out in the universe somewhere.  Remember when the first people commented on the world not being flat?  (Wasn’t alive back then personally, but still don’t doubt this fact is true!)  Or Einstein’s theory of relativity?  How many experiments have to be completed to repeatedly confirm this universal truism?

There will always be someone who claims “That’s not how it was done when I was younger!”.  Will we continue to let the doubters control how our world sees the galaxy?  Will you let someone try to shoot an apple on your head just to prove a well known and accepted physics fact?  (Better make sure the person is an excellent archer before volunteering for the experiment.)

If the world isn’t round, how do the seasons actually succeed in changing on a fairly predictable schedule?  Why don’t we fall off the world when looking over a mountain cliff?  Personally, I fall a LOT.  Have never managed to fall off the world, just tables and beds!

Why do doubters need to be alerted?  Aren’t they normally living in constant fear anyway?  Is this supposed to be something like the feared Amber Alert for missing children?  Makes you wonder how many actual doubters there are in living existence in this galaxy!  Is there a set standard for the limit of doubters in a country?  Does a high doubter number effect the terror alert status for the whole country?  What color is your country currently rated at?  Is it a yellow day or the dreaded  red alert day?  Do the doubters even bother to check their nation’s status on a daily or weekly basis?
