Prompt for the Day: “Misstep”

The people in charge of the dictionary at the Daily Post division of Word Press flipped the pages to land on the word for the day “Misstep” to inspire our creations for the day.

I Misstep Every Time Foot Goes Down

Tripping was a way of life when I was younger.  Fell down the single step into my bedroom that resulted in doing severe damage to my already messed up right knee.  Messed the knee up riding bikes with my cousins while my parents were away at a meeting out of town for a few days.  Pain would shoot through my knee but all I could do was let my aunt stop the bleeding that went on and on for what seemed like forever.  After that, my knee would lock in place and make audible creaking noises when I walked.  Was really eerie!  Sort of gross to tell you the truth!

Falling down the stair to my bedroom made more excruciating agony sear through the knee.  Asked my mom to take me to the doctor to have it looked at (I hated the doctor we went to back then).  My father decided he would look at it.  He twisted the knee to the point I actually felt something tearing in my knee.  Now the damage was even worse (even though I didn’t think that was possible)!  Could no longer put any weight on it.  So they got me a pair of crutches to use until I could visit the doctor.  The doctor sent me to an arthroscopic surgeon to see if he would be able to resolve the injury.

The surgeon pumped the joint with air so he could see inside my knee.  For the record, that was agonizing!  Then he sent me home to await his diagnoses.  My mom received the call telling her I had ripped the cartilage in my knee and it would have to be surgically repaired.  The surgery was scheduled over the long Thanksgiving weekend.  Had to be fully sedated because I am afraid of needles and doctors both.  Remember them putting me under, then woke up to the surgeon checking on my knee.  Asked if they were going to get the procedure started, he laughed and said it has been finished for a while now!  I replied, “It doesn’t feel all torn up like I thought it would”.  He told me I was still having the side effect of the sedation taking my pain away.  The next day, it still ached and I had to continue to use my crutches.

Please Help Fight Destructive Disease

The medicine my neurologist has prescribed for me for my multiple sclerosis is called Tysabri. Trying to find the actual cost on the internet is basically nearly impossible. I remember when I first started on the drug the amount the facility tried charging me was well over $2500. There was no way my husband and I could afford then or every 28 days! Biogen (the company that manufactures the drug) has been helping us with some of the cost of the drug, but will not continue helping indefinitely. So I have started a Go Fund Me campaign.
