Prompt for the Day: “Mask”

The prompt for our artistic creations for today given to us by the people at the Daily Post division of Word Press is “Mask“.

What type of Masks do you Wear?

As an introvert, I wear a mask to hide behind my realities of life.  Generally do not enjoy speaking to strangers.  Detest putting myself out there for the public to view.  Prefer talking to others over the internet where I feel much more comfortable, since I am a computer nerd at heart.  Not too many people get physically attacked over computer postings, as long as you do not give out you exact location of where your computer is located.  So I exist in the dark of our house.  Keep methods of self defence near me in every room here!

My husband and I took classes in Taekwondo while we were still dating years ago.  Still keep the moves in practice in case I ever need to defend myself today.   Let some evil person try attacking me, could use the exercise that would come from killing someone!  (Have never actually killed anyone, yet.)  Just remember all the heart pumping fun we used to have at practice with our instructor.

Please Help Fight Terrible Disease

The medicine my neurologist prescribed for me to treat my multiple sclerosis is called Tysabri. Trying to find the actual cost on the internet is basically nearly impossible. I remember when I first started on the drug the amount the facility tried charging me was well over $2500. There was no way my husband and I could afford that then or every 28 days! Biogen (the company that manufactures the drug) has been helping us with some of the cost of the drug, but will not continue helping indefinitely. So I have started a Go Fund Me campaign. Prompt for Today: “Crossroads”

The indecisive people from the Daily Post group of Word Press decided to make us face our indecision points in life by using “Crossroads” for today’s prompt for our artistic works.

Had Many Crossroads

The first major one was leaving the state in which I grew up to attend college alone.  Turned out the new site let me be introduced to many new cultures and people.  After a few years there, I met and fell in love with the man I would end up marrying.  We moved in together for about two years before our wedding occurred.  Had promised my grandpa that I would not get married until I had graduated from college, so the day after graduation was our wedding!

Had a full time job before I graduated, was happy with it at the time until a co-worker passed away.  He literally was the voice of the company that was familiar to all employees, customers, farmers, and every one else that had contact with the place.  I could not handle the man they hired for his replacement or the empty desk.  So I went looking for a new job else where.

Our new family (my husband and I) would have to relocate.  Wound up landing an interview with a consulting firm based out of Texas’s Chicago location.  Caught a flight from Springfield, MO to Chicago’s O’Hare airport.  The manager I was supposed to meet actually met me with a sign with my name on it welcoming me.  He had a limo waiting to take us to his office!   Met a few of who would become my co-workers there.  He had some people do face to face interviews with me.  Ended up liking them all and had a great time.

Later that evening, we went to what I would learn happened ever month a team meeting.  Since I would be the first female employee on the team they were all trying to be too damn polite around me.  So I told them a dirty joke completely straight faced.  Had them rolling and breathing better.  Became one of the guys on the team.  They took me to my hotel where I could get a little sleep.

Was picked up in the morning to receive my offer letter for the job I had been given the chance to accept if me and my husband would be willing to relocate to the area.  Caught a flight home to Missouri where my other half picked me up at the airport.  He called his employer to turn in his notice of resignation as I contacted my boss to warn him I would be resigning at the end of the week.

This would begin our relocation phase.  Would end up adopting 2 wonderful cats.  Moving to Colorado.  And the story just keeps going!

Prompt from Yesterday: “Borrowed”

Think the people at the Daily Post group of Word Press must be addicted to the children’s book / movie “The Borrowers” because they chose the word “Borrowed” for yesterday’s prompt to inspire our creations for the day.

Things I Borrow

Started with books from the school’s library.  Ended up reading every book they owned by the time I left grade school.  Then went to junior/ senior high school.  Not many good books in that library either, so I limited my reading there.  Ventured to the town’s public library where they ended up claiming I had stolen a book, guess they didn’t check their returns slot well enough.  I had returned the book when it was due.

Went off to college in another state of the country to expand my knowledge of the world.  Borrowed tons of books from the huge libraries there!  The day after graduation I got married,  Borrowed my god mother’s wedding veil for the ceremony.   No, it wasn’t blue, but pure white hand made by her mother, my Aunt Verna.

These days, I prefer to own the books I read allowing me to reread them as much as I desire.  I tend to go back through my favourites on a regular basis, to remember the joy I felt while reading it the first time!

Prompt for Yesterday: “Disappointment”

The unhappy people from the Daily Post division of Word Press, dragged themselves out of their own funk long enough to select yesterday’s prompt of “Disappointment” for us to sharpen our artistic talents on for the day.

Been One After Another

Since we left the place we were in the process of buying in Colorado back in 2004.  My husband and our two cats relocated by driving to a new state of the U.S.A.  We had shipped our household and my vehicle to the new house by way of a  moving truck.  So all we took with us was a change of clothes for a few days and sleeping bags.  Also had enough food and water for all the travellers on the trip.

I had not seen the new home except on the internet.  Had to rely on his interpretation of the site since he had actually seen the house.  Once we finally got there and walked inside let my husband know that since I was asthmatic and allergic to smoke, a wood burning stove in the basement was NOT a good enough source of heat for me!  The house was way too small for all of our stuff to fit into, considering we had a 3 bedroom house before.  One of the bedrooms was only used as an office, but my book shelves had to be placed somewhere.  Our dressers would not even fit in the bedroom with our bed in it!  Talk about cramped!  We ended up living there about 8 months.

Then we started relocating in other places in the Midwest.  Took 4 more moves and the passing of both our pets for us to end up here in our home in Minnesota.  Do not plan on moving again until the undertaker comes to take my body away for cremation!

Prompt for the Day: “Locked”

The security conscious people at the Daily Post division of Word Press chose “Locked” for the word to inspire our various works of art for the day.

Prefer to Keep my Doors Locked

No matter how much I trust my neighbors.  Know they would do nothing to harm me, but what about all the other people living on this planet?  Some unknown thief or even more violent person could pass this way at any time.  May have a mass murderer living a few blocks away just looking for to get their next bloody victim.

We keep no money here in the house to temp a robber.  Keeping cash here also makes it too easy to spend on frivolous things.

If anyone would like to steal our cat who likes to bite people, they will have my blessings!  The animal is so unlike his his feline relatives the panther and tiger.  He is more chicken like in nature, hides from the slightest strange noise or movement.  Was not wanting to adopt a chicken, since I do not “feel like chicken to night”!

Was actually hoping to adopt an animal partner who specialized in pest eating.  You know eats non-poisonous spiders and other small bugs.  I understand him not dining on the obnoxious ladybug like creatures the idiots in Wisconsin imported from overseas in hopes of using their abilities to remove nature’s forces against their crop’s habitat.  Can find no way to kill them myself other than lighting them on fire.

Prompt for today: “Fog”

The completely unclear people from the Daily Post division of Word Press chose the word “Fog” to spur our creations of various types of art for today.

My Foggy Brain

Happens to be mostly a result of an evil disease more commonly known as multiple sclerosis.  Generally causes it’s sufferers to experience varying types brain fog.  Mornings are when I can fight through it the best and generate some work either household chores or typing on one of our laptop computers.  By about 3 in the afternoon, my mind is done with getting any sense out of it.

My brain fog has absolutely nothing to do with my age or what I have put into my body (like alcohol or drugs).  Wish it did, because then I could control when and where the fog occurred!  I might actual enjoy a case of self inflicted brain fog that way.  Haven’t been drunk in years.

Drank so much while in my freshman year of college (mind you I was only 17 when I started that year) had to ask a room mate who was in the room when I changed clothes one day due to pictures that ended up on my camera!  That day forced me to realize I had a problem, so went dry by myself over a long 3 day weekend.  Going dry cold turkey was rough.  Glad I had the suite to myself, because spent way too much time in the bathroom!

Prompt for the Day: “Fake”

The compulsive liars at the Daily Press division of Word Press chose the word “Fake” to enliven our creations for today.

Makes Me Think of Sham

Think about what you wash your hair with a shampoo.  Little kids are taught to refer to their fecal out put as poo or poop.  So what you use on your hair to clean it is by definition fake poo!

Politics these days are no more than media presentations of a candidate’s fake promises to the region they are trying to get elected for office to lead!  Are you actually going to follow the liar anywhere?  I wouldn’t.  Too many quicksand patches for them to coax us into like cattle at a slaughter house.

Remember the fake friends we all had when we were younger in school?  They were your friends as long as you had something to give them.  Most faded away into our past like bad memories that they really were!  You may still be in touch with the few select real friends you had back then.

Don’t even get me started on today’s retail driven society.  Seems like every new product is as bad as the last was, both for your health and finances!  A simple cup of coffee is deadly and way over priced.

Prompt for the Day: “Closet”

The secrecy seeking people of the Daily Post group at Word Press chose the word “Closet” to light our creative fires for the day.

My Closets

Miss the old walk in closets we had at our house in Colorado.  Had a mirror on the door in which you could make sure you were suitably dressed for the day’s scheduled events.  The closets were HUGE!  Plenty of room for our clothing and other storage needs.  The master bedroom there was a big as the closets contained with in them.

The closets in our current house are a pretty flimsy affair.  My husband and I are forced to share a single tiny closet the has no doors!  It had curtains over the door way when we moved in.  The curtains were so annoying to get in the area with, had my husband remove the one on my side and put it up to cover the entrance to the upstairs bathroom door.  The actual door had to be removed so I could get in and out of the room using my wheelchair.  There is another smaller closet in the spare bedroom.  Neither of the two closets offer much above the hanging racks for storage.

Prompt for the Day: “Breath”

The people who apparently do not suffer from asthma at the Daily Post group of Word Press selected “Breath” for the daily prompt to make us take someone else’s breath away with our artistry.

Wish My Breaths Came Easier!

Having been diagnosed with asthma around my fifth grade year in grade school, my breathing tends to be erratic in nature.  The doctor back then prescribed me with a Primatine Mist inhaler.  He made no mention of the possible side effects.  Think I experienced each of them at least once!  My grandfather who suffered from emphysema was very familiar with the product and hated it.  I was just a small child with breathing problems, fortunately the local school gave me no trouble with keeping my medicine with me.

Was stuck keeping that evil drug at my side until I moved out of state to attend college.  In the new place, saw better medical physicians who were appalled at a young female using this antiquated drug!  Needless to say, they tried several different medicines before finding one that would let my breath come more easily.

The day after I graduated from college, I married a man that literally took my breath away.  He has been by my side now for over 20 wonderful years.  During that time my health has deteriorated steadily, since less than a year after our wedding I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.  That took the breath right out of both of us.  Moved away from that state to pursue my career as a network engineer.

That career would relocate us to my dream state of Colorado, eventually.  We tried buying a house there with breath taking views of the Rockies from my office window up stairs.  Went skiing with just the two of us and then with the company I worked for.  Had a blast playing on the mountains.  The air up there was thinner, making breathing tricky at times until my body adapted to the altitude of being a mile above sea level.

Prompt for the Day: “Disaster”

The curious people at the Daily Post division of Word Press gave us the prompt for the day of “Disaster” to form our day’s artistic product around.

My Daily Disasters

Seems like each day is just one crisis after another.  Fortunately, have had no severe falls so far today.  But almost did a nose dive into the tub in the upstairs bathroom this morning while trying to transfer my body from my wheelchair to the toilet seat.  Scared myself to death!  My husband was in the process of waking up as I returned shaking to the bedroom to get dressed for the day.

Made it safely through getting dressed and into the front room.  Had to inspect the house to see if the vomiting noise I heard our cat make at 3:14 this morning was a mess.  Apparently, our feline is an extremely convincing faker!

So far no more disasters today, I am lucky!  A few days ago, a neighbour knocked on the front door to let me know there was a dead cat at the end of the front stairs to our house.  Since our cat is strictly an indoor animal, knew it wasn’t ours.

So I tried leaving the house using the back door which has my wheelchair ramp connected to  it.  Had no problems getting to the detached garage’s driveway.  Tried going out onto the road off the driveway and couldn’t get both wheels to connect to make me move either forward or back!  I was stuck half way out onto the road.  Cars just passed by without slowing (luckily did not hit me!).  The lady in the house across the street was out in her front yard with her dogs.  I yelled over asking for help.

The nice lady (not the one who had informed me of the dead animal) had to convince her animals they could not come out the gate with her.  She pushed my wheelchair back up onto our driveway.  Promised her that I would not try leaving the driveway without having somebody there to help me up on level ground.  The driveway to our second garage is anything but level!
