Prompt from Wednesday was “Faraway”

The people from the Daily Post division of Word Press must be fans of the second Shrek movie by DreamWorks.  The recently married couple had to travel to a place Far “Faraway” in the movie.

Growing Up

Used to dream of leaving the planet as an astronaut.  That dream remained with me as I entered college.  Doing research for an assignment in one of my assignments in my English class, came across the physical requirements for an astronaut.  Was a few inches too short!  Blew my dreams out of the water entirely.  Had been trying to grow taller all my life, but no luck ever gaining even an inch!

So my major changed from aerospace engineering to computer science.  Felt faraway from my life’s dreams, but had to find a career I might succeed in doing.  Took one independent class in which I focused on what a computer programmer actually did for a living.  Turned out to be pretty boring mundane work.  So was not looking forward to a programming position anywhere!  Next semester took another independent class in which I focused on networking jobs.  Loved that type of work.  Now I finally knew exactly what my life’s calling was.  I would spend an exciting life directing network traffic.  Got to tell data not only where to go (if it was even allowed) and how to get there!  My network engineering career would lead me to manage some of the biggest networks in the world.  Got to help some of the largest banks in the U.S. survive the year 2000 data scare while I lived in the Chicago, IL metro area.  Moved on to the Denver, CO area where I landed a job with the Department of Homeland Security (or should we say the department of insecurity?)

Please Help Fight Malicious Disease

The medicine my neurologist prescribed for me to treat my multiple sclerosis is called Tysabri. Trying to find the actual cost on the internet is basically nearly impossible. I remember when I first started on the drug the amount the facility tried charging me was well over $2500. There was no way my husband and I could afford that then or every 28 days! Biogen (the company that manufactures the drug) has been helping us with some of the cost of the drug, but will not continue helping indefinitely. So I have started a Go Fund Me campaign.
