Prompt for the Day: “The Eighth Sin”

The sacrilegious people from the Daily Post group of Word Press chose “The Eighth Sin” to grease our writing engines up.  Then they asked several incriminating questions that need answers given to them-“Remember the seven cardinal sins? You’re given the serious task of adding a new one to the list — another trait or behavior you find particularly unacceptable, for whatever reason. What’s sin #8 for you? Why?”

The Eighth Sin

Before starting this writing, had to do some research on what the seven cardinal sins were.  They are:

  1. Envy = the desire to have an item or experience that someone else possesses
  2. Gluttony = excessive ongoing consumption of food or drink
  3. Greed or Avarice = an excessive pursuit of material possessions
  4. Lust = an uncontrollable passion or longing, especially for sexual desires
  5. Pride = excessive view of one’s self without regard to others.
  6. Sloth = excessive laziness or the failure to act and utilize one’s talents
  7. Wrath = uncontrollable feelings of anger and hate towards another person

Think the seven above cover basically everything I can think of even in today’s misguided world!  Yeah, we may have made it easier to commit the sins, but we haven’t invented anything new.

Maybe the 8th should be taking advantage of the sick or elderly in today’s world.  We should respect the elderly for their knowledge and life lessons they can share with us all.  Preying on the elderly should be the worst deadly sin in existence in my opinion!

Please Help Fight this Evil Disease

The medicine my neurologist has put me on for my multiple sclerosis is called Tysabri. Trying to find the actual cost on the internet is nearly impossible. I remember when I first started on the drug the amount the facility tried charging me was well over $2500. There was no way my husband and I could afford that every 28 days! Biogen (the company that manufactures the drug) has been helping us with some of the cost of the drug, but will not continue helping indefinitely. So I have started a Go Fund Me campaign. Prompt of the Day: “Fandom”

The over enthusiastic cheerleaders from the Daily Post group of Word Press submitted the prompt of “Fandom” to set our minds to work.  They asked a simple question followed by a few sentences-“Are you a sports fan? Tell us about fandom. If you’re not, tell us why not.  Sharing is caring.”

This B.S. again?

Thought the place I grew up in was the only group of idiotic people in the world that placed sports ahead of everything else!  What about basic education for young kids?  Simply helping the older people of our society would be too much of a sacrifice to ask of the general population.   We have to help take care of our returning soldiers from  their service in the military.  They give everything to protect our country, while we remain safely here at home.

Why not throw a huge party for the various people who serve our towns every day like E.M.T.’s, firefighters and police officers?  They deserve a lot more respect than an athlete who just does the same thing repeatedly each day.  Police officers around here have been known to join in an ongoing game with kids while they wait for the school bus to arrive.  Each of the officers joined the two teams of kids in playing a good game of early morning football.  Both the two officers and all the kids had a great clean game until the bus arrived and took the kids off to school.  Why are simple events like this not spotlighted more?

Prompt for Today from Prompt Stomp is still “COSTUMES”

My costume for my fifth grade year of grade school, was a hand made Clown’s costume as part of our Girl Scout troops clowning around project.  With that project, we dressed as clowns and visited different area nursing homes to try to cheer up their residents.

Like the previous year’s costume of a domino, they weren’t scary at all.  We didn’t want to scare the nice elderly people, just amuse them for a while.  Was a great time spent with the residents of the different facilities and listening to all their life’s experiences.  They actually got to live through the history we had only began to discover in our schooling’s history classes!

Some of the residents had helped in the various war projects that occurred during their past.  The helped manufacture the missiles, uniforms, protective gear for our soldiers, general ammunition, and just about anything necessary to support our troops in their fights against evil!  Others just (as if that was easy back then) raised the next generation of Americans.

They told us about the shortages they went through in their life times, rubber restrictions (wars again), bread lines from the great depression, and other things they had been forced to give up.  Then there was the invention of the great food, SPAM.  Personally, can not stand the stuff, but it was a modern miracle back then!  Imagine getting your meat fresh from a can, instead of having to kill it for your family.

Also found out how proud they were of their families for their contributions to our country.  Got to speak with family members who’s kids were now major players in American businesses today.  They told of the small achievements their family members had while still living at home, now look at them!

All this while dressed as a simple clown.  Who though you could learn so much in a Halloween costume?

Prompt for the day: “Worlds Colliding”

Talk about people reading my mind!  The people at the daily post some how knew I was in a violent mood and came up with the imagery of Worlds Colliding.  The idea of worlds colliding is very violent, in my mind at least.

Imagine just the destruction that could happen if something like two continents collided.  If I remember my history correctly, it happened years ago long before I was ever the slightest twinkle in my parents eyes.

Think as far as politics in the world go, there are different political factions colliding all around the world on a constant basis.  If you really want to make a mess, throw in a dose of religion for good measure!  Now we are talking about a blood bath of a collision of epic proportions.

At the moment, over on one of the other continents there are refugees being displaced due to war and lack of food and housing.  They reported on the local news last night that the last time this many refugees had been displaced was during World War Two!

If you want to go closer to home, think about when families are in the middle of going through a divorce of kids’ parents.  The children often are forced to survive in two or more completely different environments (or worlds to them) they have absolutely no choice in the matter!  One parent’s environment might be a safe loving place for the kids, just not much money.  The other place could be flush with funding, but no time for the children’s growth and nurturing.  How do you decide where the kids should spend most of their time?  Who has both the right and knowledge to make an informed decision?

What about when our elders are forced to leave their homes, moving into a place where they can be supervised and cared for around the clock?  They loose their freedom to decide what they can do and when they can do it.  Kind of a collision of two worlds in my opinion.
