Prompt for the Day: “Not Lemonade”

The optimistic people at the Daily Post group of Word Press came up with today’s prompt of “Not Lemonade” to try to inspire our daily creations.  They also added two sentences to help-“When life gives you lemons… make something else. Tell us about a time you used an object or resolved a tricky situation in an unorthodox way.”

But I Like Good Lemonade

Give me a few lemons and some sugar, and I will whip up a great batch of lemonade!  During the summer lemonade is my go to drink of choice, beats the heck out of iced tea or a soda.  Unfortunately, lemonade is not the choice of too many others.

When we bought and moved into our house in August, there was no ramp for me to use to get my wheelchair in and out of the home.  So for several months, we survived by using slats of cheap aluminum to get me and my wheelchair in and out.  Scared me to death traveling both up and down the back door.  By the end of the year, I had found and contacted a company that built ramps to enable handicapped people like me to access the world.  If you need similar help visit the organization that has the single driving purpose of working to create access for everyone at: http://www.ramps.org/ The gentlemen that came to my home were all very polite and conscientious.

Unfortunately, the weather didn’t always cooperate.  So due to rain, it took a little longer than they wanted it to, but I was ecstatic that there was going to be a better solution in the future!  Once the rain broke they worked hard every day.  The last day of the build, it started raining just as they were cleaning up the site.  Now am the happy owner of a wooden ramp that meets all ADA requirements!  Can come and go as I please now.

The medicine my neurologist has me on for my multiple sclerosis is called Tysabri. Trying to find the actual cost on the internet is impossible. I remember when I first started on the drug the amount the facility tried charging me was well over $2500. There was no way my husband and I could afford that every 28 days! Biogen (the company that manufactures the drug) has been helping us with some of the cost of the drug, but will not continue helping indefinitely. So I have started a Go Fund Me campaign. Prompt for the Day: “Worst Case Scenario”

Since I tend to plan my days by starting with the worst possible outcomes and praying for the best, this should be an easy writing day for me!  The prompt they gave was “Worst Case Scenario“.  Then they asked two pretty straightforward questions: “Of all the awful possibilities, what’s the worst possible thing that could happen to you today? Now, what about the best?”

Plans for today

Got up, took my medicines, and feed the cat.  Afterwards, drank my breakfast shake like every other day.  Laid my clothes out to get dressed after taking a shower.  Took my shower.  Thought my husband would jump in the shower after I was finished.  He didn’t.  He ate a sandwich instead.  Then he stripped the sheets off the bed to be put in the washing machine!  Was under the apparently false impression we were going to have sex, after both of us had showered!

The stress relief from having sex was something I needed even if he didn’t!  Getting the stress relief I was planning on would have been the best-case scenario for me, at least.  He pled off sick the last two-day break from work he got.  Now, I’m starting to worry about this!

Prompt for the Day-“Unpopular”

One of the people close to the Daily Post group of Word Press looked into my personal life history to come up with the writing prompt for today of “Unpopular“.  They included a single sentence to depress us even more “Tell us about a time when you had to choose between two options, and you picked the unpopular choice.”

When wasn’t I?

Spent my entire life growing up as an unpopular loner at school.  Always refused to let other kids copy off my work at school, would teach them how to find their own answers instead!  Taught everything from how to solve math word problems and simple science fundamentals.  Loved the impromptu science experimenting!  Preferred a good book to keep me company, than other kids.  Books offered knowledge, not judgments about your clothes.  I chose to take the honest path of not allowing other students to cheat on both homework and tests.  Did not make me very popular, but kept my conscious clear.  Would help them actually learn the best I was able to do.

Did not want the other kids to learn to depend on me always being there to answer their questions.  Wanted them to learn how to arrive at the answers correctly on their own.  This way they would be prepared for life in the real world, no matter how ugly the future got!

Prompt for the Day: “Happy Endings”

The people in search of a good story, devised today’s prompt of “Happy Endings“.    They included a simple statement followed by two serious questions-“Tell us about something you’ve tried to quit. Did you go cold turkey, or for gradual change? Did it stick?”

Alcoholism

Went away to college out of state all alone at the wise old age of 17 years old.  By the end of the first semester, relied on alcohol to help me complete my programming homework.  My best code was written when I was drunk off my ass!  Took coming across a picture taken with my own camera my sophomore year for me to realize I had a severe drinking problem.  Was pretty sure I went to the room next door wearing jeans and a T-shirt like normal, but the picture showed me in my pajamas.  When and where did I change clothes, and more importantly who was with me while I changed?  Immediately, dumped out all my remaining alcohol down the kitchen sink.

Spent the weekend alone experiencing detox from my drinking habit.  Spent too much time worshiping the porcelain gods vomiting in the bathroom.  Lighter now and clearer in the mind, cleaned up my mess from getting ill.

When my roommate returned from the long weekend, asked if she was around when the picture was taken.  Turns out, I had came back to our room and changed alone in the bathroom.  Did not touch a drop for the remainder of my college career!  My programming sucked when I was sober, unfortunately,  But I stood strong on my decision not to drink anymore!

Prompt for the Day: “New Sensation”

The memory reminders from the Daily Post group from Word Press came up with the prompt of “New Sensation” to remind us of when we were much younger.  They also added a few words to ignite our burning minds-“Ah, sweet youth. No matter whether you grew up sporting a fedora, penny loafers, poodle skirts, bell-bottoms, leg-warmers, skinny jeans, Madonna-inspired net shirts and rosaries, goth garb, a spikey mohawk, or even a wave that would put the Bieber to shame, you made a fashion statement, unique to you. Describe your favorite fashions from days of yore or current trends you think are stylin’.”

My Sensations

Tended to be a comfortable pair of jeans!  T-shirts and or sweatshirts completed my look.  I remember when INXS released their song “New Sensation” back in 1991.  Was not my favorite type of music at the time, but was better than the music that played in our barn while we milked the cows each and every morning!  My mother made me get a permanent done by a professional beautician in junior and senior high school.  Beat the heck out of the home perms she used to give me when I was really little.

Was a loner all my life.  My best friend growing up was my second cousin.  (We had no idea we were related, until I took her with me to my mother’s parents house.  Grandma started laughing when she pointed out we were related to each other through her side of the  family!)  Considering how bad a relationship I had with my other cousins, she was the only one I got along with.  We still keep in touch today even though we live many miles away from each other.

Prompt for the Day: “Write Here, Write Now”

The humorous people of the Daily Post group of Word Press came up with today’s prompt of “Write Here, Write Now“.  Gave us one simple instruction-“Write a post entirely in the present tense.”

Write Now

Normally write in the present tense most of the time anyway, so this should not be too much of a stretch of my mental workings!  Miss too much of what used to be. to keep always writing in the past tense.  No idea what the future holds, so why waste my time writing about what may happen?

Here currently is our home since Aug. of 2014 in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Have absolutely no plans on relocating from this home.  We plan on residing here until we pass away!  We have one animal we adopted before we moved here.  So, he is our only pet currently.  He bites me way too often for my liking.  He will probably be the first to pass away (Natural causes, not me killing him!).

Currently, I spend each day that I do not have a scheduled doctor’s appointment, typing on my laptop.  Type because my handwriting is no longer legible, due to the disease called multiple sclerosis.  This activity is to help keep my cognitive thinking  as intact as possible.

Prompt for the Day: “Stroke of Midnight”

The curious people at the Daily Post group of Word Press came up with “Stroke of Midnight” for today’s writing prompt.  Then they asked two loaded questions- “Where were you last night at midnight? Would you have wanted to be somewhere else?”

Stroke of Midnight

Found me sleeping in my warm bed in Minnesota.  Would have preferred to still be residing in Colorado, but we will never be able to afford to live there again.  From what I have heard come out of that state lately, may not want to reside there anymore.  Miss the view from the office window in that house.  Gave me an unobstructed view of the Rocky Mountains over my desk there.  Gave me such a scope of inspiration for my writing while I lived there.

The house was bigger, with a huge master bedroom.  Large bedroom that I used as my office.  Had another big bedroom that we used for a spare bedroom for visitors and extra storage.  The main problem with the home was the mortgage we had on it, and it was absolutely not handicap accessible!  Was not confined to a wheelchair while we resided there, thankfully!  Since I am now, would be a really big problem.
