Prompt for the Day: “Joke”

The comic people at the Daily Post group of Word Press chose the word “Joke” for our daily prompt.

All Antics Aside

Actually got my first major networking job, by being able to tell a joke!  Was nervous as all get out being surrounded by a group of older males, but since I was to be the first female on the team I needed to break the ice that had seemed to form in the conference room.  So I told them a dirty joke completely straight faced.  Learned to play poker while involved in a musical in junior high school, so put my poker face to use!  The joke is mild by today’s standards, it was back in 1997 after all.

My joke did not involve any thing off limits even today!  Spoke of two whales swimming in the ocean who were harassing fishing boats.  One made the comment that it agreed to blow the boats over, but never agreed to swallow the fishermen.

What is your personal opinion on jokes?

Loved working with that great company both in the Chicago metro area and then in the Denver area.  Unfortunately the company was bought out by the huge company Sprint during my first year with the company.  Sprint basically ended up killing off our culture of working in teams.  Sprint-Paranet went under back around 2002.  Fortunately, I resigned before they went under!

Please Help Fight Unhumourous Disease

The medicine my neurologist prescribed for me to treat my multiple sclerosis is called Tysabri. Trying to find the actual cost on the internet is basically nearly impossible. I remember when I first started on the drug the amount the facility tried charging me was well over $2500. There was no way my husband and I could afford that then or every 28 days! Biogen (the company that manufactures the drug) has been helping us with some of the cost of the drug, but will not continue helping indefinitely. If you would like to contribute to my fight against this mind stealing disease, please contribute by visit my personal website at http://saintpblogging.com/wp/ and seeing the copies of my writings located there!

Prompt for the Day: “City”

The apparently country born people at the Daily Post group of Word Press wants to be forewarned by our personal takes on the word “City“.

Music First!

Song was written by artist Glenn Frey of the Eagles.  Was used as the theme song for the T.V. show “Miami Vice”

Personal Thoughts Next

Grew up in the middle of nowhere southern Illinois.  Cities were a foreign entity to me as a child.  Knew everything about everyone in the tiny area in which I lived.  Knew that one of our neighbors (few fields away) smoked marijuana.  Played with his kids periodically, since we went to school and rode the bus together.  Getting far away was a constant desire of mine.

Wanted to get away and earn a decent education far away as possible.  Unfortunately, the scholarship I won was for a college (thankfully in another state) that was only a few hours by car trip away from the dreaded place in which I grew up!  Was a bigger city than I was used to residing in, but not as big as I was dreaming of.

After completing college, moved with my husband back to the state in which I grew up, but in the Chicago-metro area this time!  Had finally made it to a big city!  Only lasted there for 18 months due to the high taxes and cost of gas there.  Relocated to the Denver Colorado area.  Another big city to reside in.  We actually only lived in a suburb called Aurora, but it was a beautiful place to live with great neighbors!  Stayed there for a little over 7 years.

Moved many more times with varying degrees of success.  Now we have permanently resettled to a state capital city of Minnesota.  Have no plans of relocating ever again, since this is the perfect city for me to live out the rest of my life in!

Prompt of the Day: “My Favorite”

The possessive people at the Daily Post group of Word Press came up with today’s creative prompt of “My Favorite”.  They asked a single intrusive question followed by a single sentence of instruction-“What’s the most time you’ve ever spent apart from your favorite person? Tell us about it.”

Personal Favorite

Would have to be my husband.  Forced to spend a month away from him while I was sent far out of state.  At the time, we were living in an apartment in a suburb of Chicago, IL.  Had to spend an entire month in the LA area of California.  Not only was I very lonely, missed an entire month with the two kittens we had just adopted!  When I finally made it back, my cat ignored me for about an entire week!

My husband met me at O’Hare airport when I flew in.  After we got back to our apartment, dropped my bags on the floor and things got interesting.  He proved how much he missed me physically.  Was a great coming home party of two, if you know what I mean!

One of the other computer people in the LA team actually tried hitting on me, even though I had clearly let them all know that I was happily married!  The geek actually pursued me after my husband and I relocated to Colorado.  Had my husband attend one of our company’s meetings so he could show the idiot how much bigger than him he was.

Prompt for the Day: “Keeping up with the Jones’”

The editors from the Daily Post division of Word Press know way too much about my family’s history when they chose the writing prompt for today of “Keeping up with the Jones’“.  My grandma on my mother’s side’ maiden name was Jones! The people from the daily post added two simple statements-“Tell us about the one luxury item you wish you could afford, in as much detail as you can. Paint a picture for us.”

Been accused of this before

After the car I was driving lost the use of the second gear had to replace it with a new one because the cost of having the transmission repaired was way outside my college budget!  When I made the over six-hour drive back to the state I came from to visit family, dropped by my grandparent’s house for Sunday lunch like normal.  Showed my grandpa my new (actually used, but new to me) car.  Grandma followed us out and pointed out she had just gotten rid of her old car just like my new one.  She told me I should stop trying to keep up with the Jones!

New Used Jeep Grand Cherokee

The car like my grandmother had eventually gave out on me.  The automatic windows no longer came down when the button was pushed.  Makes going through a drive-up window at the bank rather difficult to manage.  The last straw was when the car began to overheat and the front seat began filling up with smoke!  Pulled over in the nearest parking lot turned the car off and popped the hood release button.  Standing beside the car in a Chicago IL area parking lot, pushed the hood up all the way.  Good thing I had gloves on, because flames were shooting out of the engine!

Called my husband to let him know what had happened and get a ride back to our apartment.  I was not getting back in the flaming car again!  He let me drive his truck home while he moved our car back to the apartment complex.  His next job was to find me a new vehicle so I would be able to get to and from work each day.  Fortunately, I had a few days off so he was not pressed to get the flaming car sold and replaced with a new means of transportation for me.  He found a good deal on a used Jeep Grand Cherokee that would take my car as a trade in!  Very happy to be rid of that car.  Fell in love with the new vehicle that we nicked named “Spot” because rain would make a spotted pattern on the black surface of the vehicle.

After relocating to Colorado, it eventually started having what was later recalled by the manufacturer for the brakes kicking on and off unpredictably.  Left me stranded in the middle of a busy intersection once too many times.  We traded it in for a different used car.  I still miss Spot, though!

Prompt for the Day: “Trains, Planes, and Automobiles”

The adventurous people of the Daily Press portion of Word Press posed the following prompt to get our writing engines started for the day: “Trains, Planes, and Automobiles“.  If that wasn’t enough they added the following comment:  “You’re going on a cross-country trip. Airplane, train, bus, or car? (Or something else entirely — bike? Hot air balloon?)”

Personally for trips of more than a few hours, I prefer flying in a commercial jet.  Tend to get cramped when sitting in a car for more than 3 hours at a time.  Used the commuter trains every day, while I resided in the Chicago-metro area back in  the late 1990’s.  Was a few years before the 9/11/2001 tragedy occurred.  Sleeping on the trains back then going to work was completely safe.  Wouldn’t be willing to risk it now!

Used to love riding my bike on the back roads growing up in southern Illinois.  Went off alone to college in Missouri, where during the first long weekend, wrecked my bicycle.  Kinda damaged my two front teeth (that’s all that we realized at the time).  Now years later, have discovered did a little more damage.  The hospital I went to back then couldn’t even treat me because I was only 17 years old.  My mom had to fax papers giving them permission to help stop the bleeding.  Eventually, had to have two caps placed on the 2 broken teeth.  Apparently, my nose suffered some major damage.  Have a deviated septum that no one noticed until the past several years!

Doubt I will ever get the nerve to travel by hot air balloon.  Ships are also out of the question, now that I can no longer swim to try to save my life.  Used to be a Red Cross certified life guard in junior high school.  Can’t even save myself now, let alone anyone else!
