Prompt for the Day-“Just Another Day”

The inquiring people at the Daily Post department of Word Press crafted today’s prompt of “Just Another Day” to ignite our creative sparks.  They made one additional comment, followed by a question: “Our days are organized around numerous small actions we repeat over and over. What’s your favorite daily ritual?”

My favorite Daily Ritual

The prompt for today made me think of the wonderful song “Another Day in Paradise” by the talented musician Phil Collins.

My personal favorite daily ritual happens around one in the afternoon each day.  I eat three squares of pure dark chocolate by Hersey’s Bliss, while reading a book.  Once that is completed, I proceed to call my best friend from grade, junior, senior high school.  We were friends long before I took her with me to my grandparents in grade school, where my grandma started laughing at us because neither of us knew we were actually cousins!  Even though we turned out to be related, we continued our friendship!  (All of my other relatives, I do not get along with at all.)  I naturally do not hold being related to me against my good friend.

Please Help Fight this Evil Disease

The medicine my neurologist has put me on for my multiple sclerosis is called Tysabri. Trying to find the actual cost on the internet is impossible. I remember when I first started on the drug the amount the facility tried charging me was well over $2500. There was no way my husband and I could afford that every 28 days! Biogen (the company that manufactures the drug) has been helping us with some of the cost of the drug, but will not continue helping indefinitely. So I have started a Go Fund Me campaign. Prompt for the Day-“Unpopular”

One of the people close to the Daily Post group of Word Press looked into my personal life history to come up with the writing prompt for today of “Unpopular“.  They included a single sentence to depress us even more “Tell us about a time when you had to choose between two options, and you picked the unpopular choice.”

When wasn’t I?

Spent my entire life growing up as an unpopular loner at school.  Always refused to let other kids copy off my work at school, would teach them how to find their own answers instead!  Taught everything from how to solve math word problems and simple science fundamentals.  Loved the impromptu science experimenting!  Preferred a good book to keep me company, than other kids.  Books offered knowledge, not judgments about your clothes.  I chose to take the honest path of not allowing other students to cheat on both homework and tests.  Did not make me very popular, but kept my conscious clear.  Would help them actually learn the best I was able to do.

Did not want the other kids to learn to depend on me always being there to answer their questions.  Wanted them to learn how to arrive at the answers correctly on their own.  This way they would be prepared for life in the real world, no matter how ugly the future got!

Prompt for the Day: “Ballerina Fireman Astronaut Movie Star”

The prompt for today is “Ballerina Fireman Astronaut Movie Star“.   Then they asked a couple of questions: “When you were 10, what did you want to be when you grew up? What are you now? Are the two connected?”

The questions are similar to a series of questions I was asked during a college entrance interview.  You forgot to ask what type of books I enjoyed reading. My dream job was always to become an Astronaut.  Found out my first semester in college, I was too short to become one.  Ended up becoming a network engineer.  Had to retire back in 2004, due to my multiple sclerosis leaving me wheelchair bound.  (Hard to track down wiring issues from a wheelchair!)

Have always enjoyed creating word craft, like writing essays.  Won several awards for my essays and reports in high school.  Turned my reports into speeches and exceeded at presenting speeches both locally, county wide, and even received a first place ranking at state level!

Fire tends to scare me too much to ever consider becoming a fireman.  Have been uncoordnated my whole life, so never even considered becoming a ballerina.  Did want to become an ice skater after watching the movie “The Cutting Edge” with friends in college.

Post for the Day: “Bloggers, Unplugged”

The evil people at the Daily Post division of Word Press wanted to slap me in the face with the fact I can’t write without the use of my laptop, because my handwriting has now been rendered illegible by the disease, multiple sclerosis which I have been suffering from since I was little! By choosing “Bloggers, Unplugged” for our daily prompt.  They added the following words to help ignite our fiery writing furnaces “Sometimes, we all need a break from these little glowing boxes. How do you know when it’s time to unplug? What do you do to make it happen?”

There is absolutely no way I could pursue my art without the aid of some type of  computer to assist me.  The only people who can interpret my handwriting now is my husband and my mother.  I know it is time to turn the computer off when my vision starts to get blurry.  Am a morning person, so by around 3 PM I am worn out for the day.

All the people I deal with on a regular basis know this fact.  They do not expect anything productive coming from me after that time.  After I am done with the machine for the day, I unplug it and shut it down.  (Order of the process matters, since I am cursed using a Windows operating system!)

Prompt for the Day: “The Luckiest People”

//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js //
The extroverts from the Daily Post division of Word Press came up with the following prompt to fuel our writing engines for the day it is “The Luckiest People“.  Then they asked a question followed by an instruction – “Who was the first person you encountered today? Write about him or her.”

The first person I encountered was my husband sleeping next to me, then our cat peered over the edge of my side of the bed.  My husband wanted to go on sleeping, since he had worked am extra long shift at his employer’s site.  The cat just wanted me to open the blinds on the windows so he could sun himself.  Let my spouse sleep a little more and got up and started my normal morning routines that included getting breakfast out of the refrigerator and taking my daily medicines.  Once those were all down, made myself a peanut butter sandwich for lunch, then fed the cat (he was not out of food, anyway).  Went back into the bedroom and asked my spouse to wake up one more time.

Laid out my clothes for my morning shower, then asked my husband to get up, again!  Returned to the front room and drank my breakfast shake.  Eventually, my husband came out and went into the bathroom.  He started his morning coffee, and took out the cat’s litter.  Then went downstairs to use his bathroom.  By the time he came back upstairs, the coffee completed perking.  With his fresh cup of coffee in hand, he joined me in the front room.  So the day had officially began!

Optic Neuritis!

Optic neuritis is one of the most common symptoms of multiple sclerosis.  I hate it!  The only worse multiple sclerosis symptom is the feeling of vertigo.  Vertigo makes you want to throw up because you feel like you are on the wave riddled sea during a horrible storm.  If I do not take motion sickness medicine, start vomiting uncontrollably from vertigo.  With optic neuritis, I simply have to cover the affected eye with a patch and take three ibuprofen pills every four hours.

Sleep also helps rest my eyes, so I take a lot of naps while suffering from the optics.  It beats getting the double vision.  Used to have that happen all the time when I was still able to drive.  Would try to avoid the vehicle that my eyes told me was the closest to my car.  The amazing fact is that I was never involved in an accident while having double vision!

Prompt for the Day-“Literate for a Day”

A person associated with the Daily Post portion of Word Press suggested the prompt for the day of “Literate for a Day“.  They made a short statement followed by a question ,”Someone or something you can’t communicate with through writing (a baby, a pet, an object) can understand every single word you write today, for one day only. What do you tell them?”.

Had a Cat who understood English

Tennyson, my black cat, not only understood what we would say, but he followed suggestions.  Asked him to go wake my husband up one day.  He jumped up on the bed and nudged him with his head.  When that was ignored, the cat got up on top of him.  My husband just rolled over, continuing to snore.  After a few failed tries of climbing on top of the man, the cat judicially stuck him with a single claw and then ran out of reach!  That was one way to wake my husband up, that hadn’t occurred to me.

After that all I had to do when I wanted him to wake up was mention that he either got up, or I’d send the cat in to finish the job!  The animal also was quite good at playing games with me.  Never met a better animal soccer (smaller ball than regulation) goalie in my life.  You couldn’t get a ball past the little runt.  He might have been tiny, but he was incredibly accurate in the use of his legs and claws.

Prompt for the Day: “Non-Regional Diction”

The people at the Daily Post group of Word Press are trying to make me feel critical of the way I talk!  The prompt for the day that they chose was “Non-Regional Diction“.  They also included the following sentence setting our overall direction-“Write about whatever you’d like, but write using regional slang, your dialect, or in your accent.”

Y’all can laugh all you want…

Have used the expression y’all since I was a child.  Also measure distances by number of fields away.  (You have to ignore the fact that fields are never the same size, but that is how I grew up in southern Illinois).  Grew up playing in the creek, but it was a “Mud creek” tributary running through our long pasture.

Last meal of the day was referred to as supper.  Mid day meal was lunch.   The guys had to have snacks available (cookies, piece of cake, etc.) in the afternoon.  You don’t want to be around a male who wants a snack and cannot find one!

Prompt for the Day: “A Tale of Two Cities”

Think Charles Dickens wrote a book with the title of today’s prompt which is “A Tale of Two Cities“.  The Daily Post group of Word Press also asked us a question-“If you could split your time evenly between two places, and two places only, which would these be?”

City number One

The first city would have to be the place in which our current home is located.  Saint Paul, Minnesota is where we put the down payment on purchasing an older house.  That was back in 2004.  Have lived here happily since we moved in.  Have gotten a wheelchair ramp installed to let me come and go all by myself in my wheelchair.

There is plenty of public transportation widely available 24 hours a day for the handicapped citizens.  Many libraries, museums, and other cultural places exist here in the city.  Our neighbors are also really easy to get along with.

City Two

Traditionally, the area we live in is referred to as the twin cities.  Minneapolis is the larger of the two cities.  There is way too much violence in Minneapolis for my liking, which is why I didn’t even consider it as a place to live permanently.  They normally have a fight a day, sometimes resulting in a murder or two.

Minneapolis is where I have to go to visit my doctors and get my medicines.  The nursing staff in the Noran Clinic, where I go is excellent!

Prompt for the Day: “It Builds Character”

The people from the Daily Post division of Word Press posed a challenge to start us creating our next characters for our next writing projects with the following prompt “It Builds Character“.  They added a statement, followed by a question-“Tell us about a favorite character from film, theater, or literature, with whom you’d like to have a heart-to-heart. What would you talk about?”

My favorite Character

Prefer him in the books, but own copies of the filmmaker’s interpretation of him, too.  The person is none other than the young wizard Harry Potter!  Was raised by his aunt and uncle along with his cousin.  They all treated him cruelly, keeping him from knowing the truth about how his parents had died.  He managed to overcome their crappy raising to befriend most people who met him.

His best friends were Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.  The three of them fight against the evils of the world, both helping and teaching others along the way!  Displays a good example of friendship today’s kids could learn from.  Would like to ask Harry how he managed to face his worst fear, fighting Lord Voldemort.  Considering my worst fear is getting a MRI, because of my claustrophobia.
