Recharge is the Prompt for Today

The insomniacs from the Daily Post division of Word Press chose the word “Recharge” for us to create various works of art about.

People Who Need a Recharge

Most likely could just use a run of a couple of good nights of undisturbed sleep!  Insomniacs have problems getting any or enough sleep on an on going basis.  Shift workers fall into this problem due to their work schedules that fail to let their bodies develop a natural circadian sleeping pattern.

Made the Mistake of Working Second Shift Once

Would have made it through that mess better, if I wasn’t the shift manager which forced me to attend a weekly meeting a few hours after my shift ended.  We worked 10 hour days each shift.  On the days all shifts met for a meeting ended up being about 14 hours before I stumbled out to my vehicle to head back home (another 1/2 hour to make it there).

You ever Worked a Shift Job?

Favorite Job Ever

Working for a D.S.L. company named Rhythms Net Connections. Got to work in my position of choice, Layer 3 networking!  Solved a multitude of networking routing problems every day.  The people on the teams with me were a great educational resource.

Unfortunately, after a few short wonderful years of my employment with them, they laid all of us off due to the company defaulting on creditors.  For the first time in my life I was unemployed with a huge mortgage to pay! My husband and I needed to resuscitate our income.  There were no jobs in the area that would hire me due to being overqualified for their positions.  Eventually my unemployment benefits threatened to cease.  So I was forced to try working for Home Depot.  While there, I kept my job searching up.  Eventually received a bite on an application to work for a contract position for the Department of Homeland Security.

Went to my first interview in a long time.  Like most people, I was extremely nervous, even got a pair of falsies to stuff in my bra!  Got hired at that interview.  Started getting paid to stay home and research specific technologies we would be using once the center opened in Colorado.  After about 2 months, met the new team I would be working with.  Did not get along with them very well at first.  Then we spit into shifts.  Since my husband was currently working 3nd shift, that is what I applied for.

Working 3rd shift was a new experience for me.  Went to work each day in jeans, since no one else was around, anyway!  They were black jeans that most of the rest of the team mistook for dress pants.  Got promoted again to be team lead.  I always took meticulous notes about who said what and network addresses.  Started creating a world wide network map detailing machine types and network addresses.

All comments will be read by me.  Your information will not be sold or any other of the slimy internet manoeuvres!

The really scary thing was I never received my security clearance, even though I was controlling huge routers that serviced places all over the United States of America.  Talk about a major flaw in D.H.S. itself!  Sort of why I jokingly refer to it as the Department of Insecurity, these days.  Resigned to move out of the state.

Please Help Fight Energy Stealing Disease

Found out I had the disease a little over a year after graduation from college.  The medicine my neurologist prescribed for me to treat my multiple sclerosis currently is called Tysabri. Trying to find the actual cost on the internet is basically nearly impossible. I remember when I first started on the drug the amount the facility tried charging me was well over $2500. There was no way my husband and I could afford that then or every 28 days! Biogen (the company that manufactures the drug) has been helping us with some of the cost of the drug, but will not continue helping indefinitely. Sandwich is Prompt for Today

The ravenous people at the Daily Post group of Word Press ave their mind on the word “Sandwich” to use as our daily word to create works of art about.

My Go-To Choice is Peanut Butter

Eat at least a half my favorite meal each day!  Add an apple and a banana and you have my normal lunch time meal.  Used to add jelly on the top of the peanut layer, but that tends to render sticky hands, so now just stick to a slice of white bread, add a layer of the peanut butter, then top it off with another slice of bread.  Main course is now completed!

What Type of Sandwiches

Do you personally prefer?

I know there are many people who bodies cannot handle digesting breads.  They miss out on the simplicity of eating a quick meal.  Alternates to using white bread exist like using rice bread, Plantain Tortillias, Grilled Portabello mushrooms, Butternut Flatbread, Tomato sliders, and California Wraps are all examples of breadless sandwiches!

Each person has many different sandwich types to choose from.  Allergies vary and taste preferences differ by families and the actual types of foods you have easy access to obtain.  Diseases unfortunately slim down the choices people can make.

What Illness Ate You Cursed With?

Both Diabetes and Celiac Disease run in families, I know because they run in mine!  Along with Multiple Sclerosis, and Asthma are the more annoying.  Allergies like insect stings that may require carrying an epi pen on your person at all times also exists in my family.

Wiepi-penth the costs of carrying an epi pen growing astronomically due to greedy drug manufacturers, this is a very expensive problem for families today.  What if you have multiple children needing to keep the pins on them in case of a severe allergy attack?  How far into debt does the people have to go into before the government actually does something to alleviate this problem?

Twinkle was the prompt for August 7th

The night gazing people of the Daily Post division of Word Press selected the word “Twinkle” for us to create various works of art around.

Kid’s Music First

The prompt made me think of the children’s nursery rhyme Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Who Didn’t Look Up At The Sky

In awe when they were little?  On clear nights where I lived out in the country, there was a moon, many stars, and the occasional falling stars.  The two dogs and I would stand there looking up as long as my parents left us alone out there.  One of the pair was my protector.  She was a German Shepard – Golden Labrador mix who watched over me since my birth.  She literally walked me down the lane to the highway where I caught the bus to go to school each day.  She would be waiting there for me upon my return home.  I was her first “puppy”.  She had her own puppies later on the only one we kept was her son. The rest we gave to other people who were looking for dogs to adopt for their own.

What were you looking for in the sky?

I was always looking at the moon.  Watching for the occasional  falling stars.  What were you looking for?

Did the sky answer your wishes?

Did you Pursue Your Sky Dreams?

I went off to college to follow my dream of being an astronaut.  Turns out in my freshman year, I learned that there was a height requirement I had no chance of ever reaching.  So I simply gave up my dream and studied computer science, my other interest.  Found in that discipline a second career choice that suited me better than I could have ever imagined.

Network engineering became my final calling.  How else could I not only tell data where to go, but also how to get there?  I loved it!  Ended up meeting a wonderful man while in my junior year there.  We married the day after I graduated.  Have been together ever since!

We moved to different states here in the USA following our employment options.  Do not plan on ever moving again!  This place has everything either of us could wish upon a star for!

Plop is the Articulate Prompt for the Day

The possibly constipated or otherwise ill people at the Daily Post group of Word Press settled on the word “Plop” for us to base our daily creations on today.

Grew up Listening to Commercials

Today’s prompt made me think of an old commercial!  Alka-Seltzer’s commercial from the late 60’s.

Back then they actually made decent commercials with catchy tunes to them!  Who can forget when Coke decided to teach the world to sing?  Where did all the gifted commercial writers disappear to these days?  Hopefully they are living off their earnings from the old days when people enjoyed listening to their songs!  They deserve a break after a successful run on commercial television.

Do you remember commercials from when you were little?

Sort of Sad

That the only good memories from child hood came from commercials on the limited amount of T.V. reception we managed to get out in the middle of nowhere southern IL!  Could count the number of channels we could mange to receive on one hand and have a few fingers left over!

Thankfully we were able to get P.B.S. on most days, since that was my main source of education.  Seasame Street and The Electric Company introduced me to the world of reading, or my endless source of knowledge as I call it!  All it took was some tin foil wrapped around the rabbit ear antennas, a little patience, and standing in the right location to view the magic of educational television.

The Rest of Time

There used to be decent sitcoms like M.A.S.H. and Welcome Back Kotter to help keep the family’s entertained.  None of the trash like people are exposed to today!

Fierce is the Prompt for the Day

The actual prompt for today did not speak to me, so I chose a prompt from a while back that I had not used yet.  The prompt I chose to use for today is “Fierce“.

Rarely Feel Fierce These Days

Tend to be more timid than violent lately.  Probably is a good change!

When did You Last feel Savage Energies in Your Body?

Used to Feel Savage While Solving Computer Networking Problems

Since had to retire due to health back in 2004, lost the will to fight, unfortunately.  Also lost all my confidence to stand up to others.  Probably was a good thing, but I don’t feel like it is at the moment!

Have lost touch with all the friends I made while living in Colorado.  Since most of them used to be my co-workers we have nothing in common these days.  Even the company we used to be employed by no longer exists!  Was a great place to work and great minds worked there, too!  Have actually lost my mental capabilities since then due to multiple sclerosis.

If you would like to contact me, all you have to do is fill out the form located below:

I am the only one who will see your information.  I promise!  Thank you for all your insightful comments.

Am Much More Sedate Now

Calm is such a boring feeling to have constantly.  Miss getting out with my old friends for our regularly scheduled meetings at various locations.  One we used to frequent was actually a biker bar up in Morrison CO!  Had never been to a biker hangout before, then again I was scared of motorcycles back then!

These days, I love riding with my husband on our Honda Goldwing!  Would never have thought I would years ago.  So, I’ve turned into a biker bitch, like my hubby likes to laugh about!  Wouldn’t my old friends be surprised if we showed up for one of our old meetings on our own motorcycle?

Eclipse is the Prompt for Today

The people with their heads in the clouds at the Daily Post division of Word Press chose the word “Eclipse” for us to create our daily works of art about.

Remember the First One I Watched

Back in grade school.  We were not allowed to look directly at the sun (for obvious reasons), but had to view it through a strange cardboard construction we made in class.  Scary to trust my eyes to something I had crafted with my own two hands!   There were the usual class clowns that braved watching it with no protection for their eyes even though they had made one like I had in class.  Do not know if their vision was damaged at all years down the road.  If it was, they deserved it for not following our teacher’s instruction!

Did you get to view an eclipse as a child?

Loved Observing the Heavens

When I was younger, since I wanted to be an astronaut upon graduation from college.  Remember watching Halley’s Comet when it came near while I was still in junior high school back in 1986.  Was part of the Young Astronauts club that year.  Ended up as president of the club!  Maybe because I was the geekiest, who knows?

YoungAstronautPatch

Left State for College

There I unfortunately learned there was a height requirement for astronauts during my first semester away.  I was TOO short to ever achieve my dream!  Was a sudden shadow on my life’s goals.  Decided to change my major to computer science, since computers were my other interest in life.

Applied and was accepted for an internship with a dairy company at the end of my sophomore year.  There I studied and submitted a paper on the job of a computer programmer.  Found out that gave me absolutely no feeling of a life long career position, so the next semester looked into network administration.

Fell in love with the idea of not only being able to tell data packets where to go, but how to get there!  This would be my new dream job.  Was hired on permanently full time at the internship site.  That happened before I ever graduated from college!  Worked there for a few years after graduation, then a close co-worker passed away. Could not handle his empty desk.

Started searching for a new employer.   Found a company who dealt with the networks of fortune 500 companies ll over the country.  They actually hired little old me.  Drug my husband with me up to a suburb of Chicago to pursue my dream position in life.  Talk about a total eclipse!  From working for a dairy company to helping major companies deal with their Y2K difficulties, man had things changed.

Melody is the Prompt for the Day

The music lovers at the Daily Post division of Word Press want us to create our works of art about the word “Melody” for today.

Have Music in My Head Constantly

Get the annoying melodies stuck up there from days long past.  Even today’s new tunes sometimes stick with me like an annoying case of the sniffles!

What type of songs get trapped in your mind?

Does the Music From Newest Flick at the Movies Get Stuck?

The trailers that are played on the television endlessly causes me to get annoying songs stuck in my mind.  Since I rarely see movies at the theatres, until they are available on DVD it stays with me!  Sucks when I turn out to not enjoy the movie once we watch it.

Worse yet is theme songs from pointless television shows.  Still have the song that goes “Love and Marriage” by Frank Sinatra stuck in my head.  Unfortunately was ruined by the T.V. show “Married with Children

The Best Songs Happen While You are Young

That music will reside in your mind for what seems like forever!  Maybe you participated in a group of Scouts.  Have songs from my Girl Scout years in my head all the time.  Or the music you actually listened to when you met your life’s love.  We still have copies of the music we listened to while dating!  Have a few movies we both saw and enjoyed together on DVD.

Shiver is the Prompt for Today

The people at the Daily Post group of Word Press must have either been in a really cold room or frightened when they chose “Shiver” for us to create our various works of art on for today.

Love Feeling Cold

Unfortunately, rarely feel cold enough to cause involuntary body trembling.  That is why we relocated up to the northern part of the continental United States of America the country where we were both born and raised.

Has been suggested that I try moving to:

  1. Alaska
  2. Finland
  3. Siberia
  4. Iceland
  5. Antarctica

You get the idea.  None of those places has the medical facilities I require to treat my multiple sclerosis.  Nor do they necessarily have a suitable place of employment for my husband!  Quiver in horror at the idea of forcing our cat to suffer through the idea of another move.

What makes you shiver?

To get Shivers of fear:

I recommend reading one of author Stephen King‘s novels or watching one of the film adaptations of one of his many books.

If you are a fan of the older generation books and movies, maybe a good Alfred Hitchcock selection would satisfy you best!

Vice is the Prompt for Today

The immoral people at the Daily Post division of Word Press chose to air their faults by selecting the word “Vice” for today’s prompt.

Personally Have Many Vices

My Love of Pure Dark Chocolate

Is my biggest act of immorality.  Prefer strictly pure dark chocolate without added impurities like marshmallows or other gross additives.  A dash of peppermint would not be unpleasant occasionally, but just pure dark milk chocolate each day is enough for me!

One Can Mountain Lightning

Drink one single can of a it each day.  It is a less expensive knock off of the name brand Mountain Dew, but personally I prefer the no-name to the actual name brand.  Think that Mountain Lightning may actually have more caffeine!

What are some of you personal Vices

Everyone has some sort of indulgence.  Some people smoke or gamble.  For others the demon may be an addiction to fishing or hunting game.  We are all mere humans!

Chronic Disease and Disability

Does the one lead to the other?  Not necessarily.  For the record, I have a chronic disease called Multiple Sclerosis.  Which has led me to be permanently wheelchair bound.  People with the disease I am cursed with, may or may not end up in a wheelchair.  I know some who are still able to move around walking freely who have the same illness!

Chronic Disease

A chronic disease is one lasting 3 months or more, by definition of the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics.  They cannot be prevented by vaccines or cured by medication, nor do they just disappear by themselves.  Some you are just born with, unfortunately!

Disabilities

Some children are born with a disability.  The child did not cause the problem.  Should have been identified as a disabled person long before entering the school systems.

Later people who become disabled are subject to having to be able to prove that they are disabled.  Which is a whole other nightmare of documentation to prove or dis-prove the case for the disabled person.  Have to possess an organized system of keeping track of doctors and their findings to successfully qualify for U.S. disability income.  What sucks even more is  the administrators make you feel like you are utterly worthless during the whole filling procedure.  Went to one examiner while living in Wisconsin that had a full flight of stairs for me to climb up to his front door!  Being in a wheelchair, if my husband hadn’t came with me, I would not have made it through his front door for my scheduled appointment!  Ended up getting rejected for my application in that state.

Relocated back to southern Illinois and got assistance from a company called Allsup who took over my application for me and got me approved!  Took 3 years from my first application in WI to the filling with Allsup in total before receiving first Social Security Disability check.

Having worked all my life and paying all required taxes the check turned out to be a great thing at first, but then looking back to the life style I used to be able to afford while I was able to work.  If my husband didn’t have a decent job we would be out on the streets today!
