Prompt for the Day: “Summer”

The obvious thinking people at the Daily Post group of Word Press chose the word “Summer” for us to base our artristic works for the first meteorological day of summer in the U.S.A..

Music came to Mind First

First song that popped in my head comes from a favourite show of mine Grease “Summer Nights“.  There are many more popular summer songs.  “Summertime” by Billy Stewart back in 1966.  “Cruel Summer” by Bananarama in 1983.  “Summertime Blues” by Eddie Cochran back in 1958.  The “Summer Song” featuring Chad & Jeremy in 1964.  “Summer Breeze” from Seals and Crofts from 1972.  Who can forget Nat King Cole’s “Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer” in 1963?

Summer” by War was released in 1976.  Don Henley’s “The Boys of Summer” was released in 1984.  “Summer of ’69” by Bryan Adams in 1985 is a personal favourite of mine.  After that came Don Henley’s “The Boys of Summer” in 1984.  Then came the “Endless Summer Nights” by Richard Marx in 1988.  “Summer Girls” came out 1999 by LFO.

More recently, there is “Summer Love” by Justin Timberlake in 2007.

Personal Thoughts on Summer

I hate it!  The constant heat saps my energy down to nothing.  Wake up sweating even though the house is completely air conditioned.  With out the air conditioning, I would be experiencing continuous grand mal seizures that my medical staff are at a loss to reproduce or fully explain!  Apparently, the multiple sclerosis that I suffer from is causing it somehow. Their only suggestion is to remain inside as much as I can.

How am I supposed to get out if for nothing else than to arrive at their facilities for my scheduled appointments?  Have to go outside to check on the tomatoes my husband and I planted in May.

Please Help Fight Hideous Disease

The medicine my neurologist prescribed for me to treat my multiple sclerosis is called Tysabri. Trying to find the actual cost on the internet is basically nearly impossible. I remember when I first started on the drug the amount the facility tried charging me was well over $2500. There was no way my husband and I could afford that then or every 28 days! Biogen (the company that manufactures the drug) has been helping us with some of the cost of the drug, but will not continue helping indefinitely. So I have started a Go Fund Me campaign. Prompt for the Day: “Natural”

The people working at the Daily Post division of Word Press who must be word smiths by nature chose the word “Natural” for our daily artistic works to be a representative of today.

Prefer Foods We Grow Ourselves

At least then I know for sure no added chemicals have touched their surfaces!  No bug sprays or strange fertilizers are used in the production of my vegetables.  This year am only growing tomatoes.  Next year, if the endeavour is successful, will be growing them and more plant varieties.

Deciding what to plant will be something me and my husband will have to decide on over the winter.  Cucumbers, peppers, herbs, and many other things could be grown here at home!

Foods that occur in nature naturally like dandelions aren’t things I personally like to eat, but wild onions from a remote location  taste really good!  Just have to be careful they were not subjected to spraying of chemicals in the general vicinity.  Washing them off with clean water may not be enough to get rid of the contaminates, unfortunately.

Wild straw berries are a take your chances if you come across them.  Natural nuts are normally safe to eat.  Wild rhubarb used to grow around the fields near where I grew up as a child.  Not a fan of that particular plant myself.  Preferred coming across wild blue berry plants!  That was a rarity, but it was good.

Prompt for the Day: “Rebuild”

The people apparently from America’s reconstruction era of our country’s history want us to concentrate all of our artistic talents on the word “Rebuild” for today.

Have No Desire to Reconstruct My Life

The life I had while we lived in Colorado is long in the past.  Miss the people we knew there, but they have also moved on and away from the location.  People in that state now have changed both in religions and number of immigrants to our country (some legal, but too many not legally living here in America).

Went through too many trials to get to the point my husband and I are now in.  Here and Now, we are living in a handicap accessible home (have to redo the upstairs bathroom, but that will happen after the next year’s tax returns come in).  Just have to be patient and wait for it to come!

Have started growing fresh tomatoes in garden boxes.  Have not tried growing anything since the straw berries in CO.  They were unsuccessful, but that may have been from the inhospitable growing environment.  Even the grass (you know the stuff that grows on the ground naturally in most paces) we tried to nurture there did not grow as planed!

Prompt for the Day: “Flourish”

Are the people at the Daily Post division of Word Press insinuating that I embellish my writing?  They chose the word “Flourish” for our daily works of art to be based on.

Yeah, I Tend to use Big Words

How else can I hope to improve my vocabulary if I don’t put the words to use in daily life?  It is not like you have to actually own a dictionary these days.  You can just look the words up on the internet.  Gave up on actually reading the dictionary back in grade school.  The book had no plot (technically, the word plot was included in the book).  My husband pointed this out to me the last time I made that statement.

Hope the two tomato plants we planted thrive over the summer.  Planning on devouring the big juicy delicious vegetables when they ripen.  A salt shaker near by would be a wonderful accompaniment! Hope the plant’s flowers multiply, since the flowers grow into the actual tomato vegetables.

Next year, if the planting turns out successfully, will purchase another planter to grow peppers and herbs in it.  Who knows what the future of my gardening exploits we lead us?

Prompt for the Day: “Generation”

The lonely people at the Daily Post division of Word Press must have resorted to their ancestors for today’s prompt of “Generation“.

My Generation

Seems to have no knowledge of raising their own food.  They seem to rely on stopping at fast food restaurants for subsistence.  Great way to both gain weight and waste hard earned money!

Is this how they want the next generation to survive?  How about teaching them basic gardening skills.  Nothing tastes better than vegetables you have grown yourself!  Grab a fresh tomato from your garden and sink your teeth into the juicy flesh.  Or better yet, cut it up in a salad.  Cucumbers you grow can either be eaten fresh or made into pickles down the road.  Try growing your own herbs in your patch of dirt.  Who doesn’t like sage, parsley, or garlic added to a dish?

Prompt for the Day: “Locked”

The security conscious people at the Daily Post division of Word Press chose “Locked” for the word to inspire our various works of art for the day.

Prefer to Keep my Doors Locked

No matter how much I trust my neighbors.  Know they would do nothing to harm me, but what about all the other people living on this planet?  Some unknown thief or even more violent person could pass this way at any time.  May have a mass murderer living a few blocks away just looking for to get their next bloody victim.

We keep no money here in the house to temp a robber.  Keeping cash here also makes it too easy to spend on frivolous things.

If anyone would like to steal our cat who likes to bite people, they will have my blessings!  The animal is so unlike his his feline relatives the panther and tiger.  He is more chicken like in nature, hides from the slightest strange noise or movement.  Was not wanting to adopt a chicken, since I do not “feel like chicken to night”!

Was actually hoping to adopt an animal partner who specialized in pest eating.  You know eats non-poisonous spiders and other small bugs.  I understand him not dining on the obnoxious ladybug like creatures the idiots in Wisconsin imported from overseas in hopes of using their abilities to remove nature’s forces against their crop’s habitat.  Can find no way to kill them myself other than lighting them on fire.

Prompt of the Day: “A plot of Earth”

The Editors from WordPress.com provided us with 365 Days of Writing Prompts. Today’s prompt was “A plot of Earth”. They gave us a single statement followed by a question: “You’re given a plot of land and have the financial resources to do what you please. What’s the plan?”

Having grown up on a farm

Know how valuable decent land can be!  Being as I now live in a very populated city, doubt the land here would be good enough to start a modest vegetable farm on.

Since that dream is not feasible, would have to create a place for handicapped people like myself to be able to gather and meet others like them.  Obviously, would have to have full accessibility to allow them to come and go as they want.  All bathrooms would have large stalls to accommodate their various accessories to provide their mobility.  Things like electric wheelchairs, scooters, or other devices would be the normal, not the exception here!  Would have a repair person on site to be able to make repairs if needed.

A storage of most common large parts would be kept on hand, in case they are needed in repairs.  Extra tires and tire pumps would be available.  Common tools like screwdrivers and wrenches of the most used sizes will be there for the repair people to utilize.

The Interminable Wait for Return Call

Yesterday, a man that Amanda, woman from my insurance company, had suggested I get in touch with to see about having a ramp built to my house, came to inspect our house.  He was involved with a group that is listed out on the internet as www.ramps.org.  He will be in charge of getting the ramp up to my back door.

Looking forward to the freedom of coming and going from my house as I please.  Haven’t had that freedom since we left Colorado back in 2004.  Haven’t been able to drive in years,  Have not put a vehicle in ignition since we moved to this state back in 2008.  Will have to rely on public transportation, but it is a LOT safer in St. Paul, than it was in Hastings where we lived before we bought our house.  I really would like to make friends with our neighbors.  Know the older lady gardens, which I will be doing once I can get out of this house!  Maybe we can exchange helpful hints on growing in this area.

Have to start making friends in this new state.  Miss my friends from where I have lived previously.  Have lost contact with our old neighbors from Colorado.  Still keep in touch with friends from previous employers.
