The people at the Daily Post division of Word Press must have some sort of macabre way of thinking when they came up with today’s prompt of “Sink or Swim”. They made a simple statement followed by a question- “Tell us about a time when you were left on your own, to fend for yourself in an overwhelming situation — on the job, at home, at school. What was the outcome?”
Jumped in a swimming pool
Early one summer while still in grade school at the deep end. Had been swimming for years, but the feeling of the cold liquid hitting me sent me into shock and I sank like a brick! Fortunately, an adult saw it happen and jumped in and rescued me. She forbade me of getting anywhere near a part of the pool in which I could not stand up and reach air. Was humiliating, but I did frighten her really bad.
Went away alone to college
Moved out of state to attend a school I had won a scholarship covering my costs. Was all alone over six hours from home. Became an alcoholic from the stress. Came to my senses during my sophomore year. On a three day weekend, forced myself to dispose of the alcohol and went through detox all alone.
Got a better job
Which forced me to relocate both myself and my husband to a different state. Was now getting a much better salary and was surrounded with intelligent networking professionals like myself. Loved the mental stimulus of serving our customers by fixing their networks, regardless of how long it took. Got to work with many fortune 500 company’s most secure (or so they thought) networking configurations. Won many awards within the company for my dedication to serving our customers.
Please Help Fight this Evil Disease
The medicine my neurologist has me on for my multiple sclerosis is called Tysabri. Trying to find the actual cost on the internet is impossible. I remember when I first started on the drug the amount the facility tried charging me was well over $2500. There was no way my husband and I could afford that every 28 days! Biogen (the manufacturing drug company) has been helping us with some of the cost of the drug, but will not continue helping indefinitely. So I have started a Go Fund Me campaign. All help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your generosity!
